Workshop on ‘Media Literacy: Information, News, and Fact-Checking’ for Ampara District CSO Members

The Sri Lanka Press Institute, with support from the U.S. Embassy Colombo, Sri Lanka, conducted a series of workshops for adult groups, including Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), on ‘Media Literacy: Information, News, and Fact-Checking’. As part of this program, we organised a workshop for CSO members in the Ampara District on the 29th of April 2024.

While we focus on enhancing the skills of media professionals and newsrooms, it’s equally important to educate the general public on media literacy, as they are the ultimate consumers of all forms of information. During the workshop, we emphasised the significance of media literacy and provided guidance on distinguishing news from other types of information they consume daily. The session covered basic fact-checking techniques and strategies for countering propaganda.

As the Sri Lanka Press Institute, we continue to advocate for informed media consumption among the general public, empowering them to make wise decisions based on accurate information.
