SRI LANKA PRESS INSTITUTE’S BASIC MEDIA LITERACY AND FACT-CHECKING TRAINING
The Sri Lanka Press Institute’s fact-checking unit, FactSeeker, conducted a series of on-site workshops on “Basic Media Literacy and Fact-checking”  for youth groups across the island.
Workshops were held in Matara, Ratnapura, Badulla, Batticaloa, Ampara,Vavuniya and Anuradhapura, Kandy, Colombo and Kurunegala districts catering to both Sinhala and Tamil audiences on 8th, 9th, 17th, 19th February and 4th, 24th, 26th and 30th March 2022.
The training programmes were attended by a total of 293 youth from the districts and led by the SLPI trainer and FactSeeker Team Lead Kasun Kumarage and Vidivelli Editor Fairooz Mohamed.
The workshop entailed in-depth awareness of the danger of False Information and its rapid circulation in today’s instant information era and practical tools and techniques the youth could use to engage in fact-checking.
