The Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI) successfully conducted an online training session on Google Trends for Journalists on 29 October 2025. The session, held via Zoom at 7.30 PM, was designed to provide participants with practical, hands-on experience in using Google Trends as a tool for journalism.
The workshop was conducted by Mr. Akshitha Sriyanjith, who guided the participants through the various features of Google Trends, highlighting how journalists can integrate this powerful tool into their daily reporting. From identifying trending topics and comparing search terms to analyzing audience interest across regions, the session showcased the many ways Google Trends can help strengthen data-driven storytelling.
Hosted by SLPI, the training attracted a vibrant group of participants including working journalists, media students, and media enthusiasts eager to explore how digital tools can enhance their reporting. The interactive nature of the workshop allowed participants not only to learn but also to practice using Google Trends in real time, ensuring they gained practical knowledge that could be directly applied in the newsroom.
