SLPI conducted the workshop on Digital Media Literacy and Unmasking False Narratives at Sri Palee Campus, University of Colombo

The Sri Lanka Press Institute’s fact-checking team, FactSeeker, in collaboration with the US Embassy, Colombo, organized a workshop on digital media literacy and unmasking false narratives on May 9th, 2023, at the Sri Palee Campus, University of Colombo. This workshop was the second of the workshop series for undergraduate students.

The primary objective of the workshop was to equip participants with the essential skills required to identify and challenge false narratives prevalent in the digital media landscape. The workshop provided valuable insights on assessing information sources, recognizing misinformation and disinformation, ensuring digital safety, and engaging in fact-checking activities. The workshop was meticulously coordinated by Kalani Dharmasiri, Senior Lecturer, while  Dr.Sugath Senarath, Head of the Department, Department of Mass Media, played a significant role in the coordination process.

The workshop garnered active participation from 31 media undergraduate students who learned through various activities and group work. The workshop’s success was evident in the enthusiastic participation and the positive feedback received from the attendees.
