SRI LANKA PRESS INSTITUTE’S BASIC MEDIA LITERACY AND FACT-CHECKING TRAINING

The Sri Lanka Press Institute’s fact-checking unit, FactSeeker, conducted two successful on-site workshops on “Basic Media Literacy and Fact-checking”  at the Solis Hotel in Matara and Kethumathee Hotel in Ratnapura on 8th and 9th February 2022.

The workshops were attended by 19 and 17 youth participants in Matara and Ratnapura districts respectively. The training program was conducted by the SLPI trainer and FactSeeker team lead, Kasun Kumarage. The workshop entailed in-depth awareness of the danger of False Information and its rapid circulation in today’s instant information era and practical tools and techniques the youth could use to engage in fact-checking.

Youth from the rest of the provinces in Sri Lanka are invited to secure their seat to attend a similar workshop to improve skills of media literacy and fact-checking by scanning the QR code in the image above.
