4A’s and SLPI Launch Certificate in Corporate Communications and PR

Furthering their commitment to nurture young talent in the communications and related industries, the Accredited Advertising Agencies Association (4A’s) partnered with the Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI) to launch a Certificate Course in Corporate Communications and PR.
The three months program concluded recently with 25 students successfully completing the course.  Focused on professional hands-on learning, underpinned by theoretical study, the course provided a creative and interactive environment to teach students the skills needed to succeed in Corporate Communications and PR.
Students attending the course benefitted from the insight of top experts in these fields. The lecture panel includes Founder Chairman of Bates Strategic Alliance – Nimal Gunawardena, CEO of OMD and PHD in Sri Lanka – Keith Wijesuriya and Managing Director of Words Advertising – Rohan Rajaratnam.
In the recent past, marketers have come to appreciate the value of managing corporate reputation and the evolving role of social media in this regard. Therefore, it seems only apt that a significant part of the course focused on the “social media” aspect in relation to the main subject matter. Other course modules included Media Relations, Release writing, Crisis management, Corporate Branding Internal Communications and CSR.
“The 4A’s is dedicated to fostering creative talent through collaboration. It is with this in mind that we have tied up with the Sri Lanka Press Institute to offer a course for those interested in sharpening their skills or pursuing a career in Corporate Communications and PR,” said President of the 4A’s and COO of Bates Strategic Alliance, Sheron Jayasundara. “This is an exciting field with a lot of scope for growth and expression of creativity.” she added.
“Being a premier institution in the field of communication, SLPI has been working towards professionalizing journalism for more than a decade. We feel the partnership with 4A’s adds another dimension to its role and brings in the right combination to deliver a program of this nature, which is not only sought out by the corporate but also by individuals” said the CEO of SLPI, Kumar Lopez.
The 4A’s represents advertising and marketing communications practitioners, agencies and related businesses in Sri Lanka. It is a collective body intent on promoting collaboration across the industry.
The Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI) is a body incorporated, constituted by the Newspaper Society of Sri Lanka,  The Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka, the Free Media Movement and Sri Lanka Working Journalists Association with its Main Objects being “to assist, encourage and facilitate the Press to exercise and uphold its freedom and be responsible to the Public”.  The SLPI is the country’s leading institution that envisages development of media in Sri Lanka through professional training and upholding ethics.  It has two major divisions the Sri Lanka College of Journalism (SLCJ) which handles the training of journalists and the Press Complaints Commission of Sri Lanka (PCCSL) that operates as a mediator between the public and the media.
