Formulating an advertising policy for print media - Press Release November 06, 2008 Start Date : 2008-11-10Following the outcomes of a public forum organised by the Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI) last month on Advertising, Media and Misguiding the Public, the print media industry has now embarked on a process of negotiations with parties concerned aiming at formulating and implementing an advertising policy for the industry.
The Newspaper Society of Sri Lanka at its last meeting has decided to request the advertising heads of their respective institutions to commence a collective process in formulating a common policy for the print media. The Editors' Guild of Sri Lanka will also be invited to participate in the process.
The recently concluded Colombo Declaration Conference on Media Freedom and Social Responsibility also dedicated a session on Business Ethics in Media and had extensive deliberations by a panel that consisted media owners, advertising agencies and media personnel. These deliberations were also brought into the notice of the concerned parties of the industry by the SLPI.
The Sri Lanka Press Institute collectively established by media owners, editors, journalists and media activists, will remain the focal point of this process.
